Since the beginning of 2020, the production of silkworm cocoons in Tajikistan has almost halved compared to the same period last year. According to statistics from the Tajikistan Statistical Agency, the output of this type of product has fallen by 45% compared with the output of the first five months of last year. During the period from January to May this year, the output of silkworm cocoons was 346.7 tons, compared with 630.8 tons in the same period last year.
According to the data from Ministry of Industry and New Technologies in Tajikistan, this year the country has imported a total of 18,500 boxes of silkworm eggs from China and will be distributed to various farms across the country. According to sources, processing companies in this industry use silkworm cocoons as basic raw materials to produce yarn and silk. At present, there is only one company in Tajikistan using silkworm cocoons as raw materials to produce satin and Aidelaisi.
